In a MalteseFootball.com scout report special, we take a look at the current top five Maltese Premier League goalscorers by reviewing their Football Manager 2019 stats at the start of the game (July 2018).
Mario Fontanella currently dominates the table with 13 goals to his name from 18 league appearances. The Italian forward is in healthy competition with team mate Bojan Kaljevic who is in second place, just two goals behind on 11.

- MARIO FONTANELLA – 13 GOALS IN 18 APPEARANCES
Mario Fontanella first came to Malta in 2015 after signing for Floriana. During his first season, the 29-year-old had a great start to life in the Maltese Premier League, scoring 20 league goals in 31 appearances.
Fontanella’s second season also saw him hit double figures picking up 15 league goals in 29 games. In his final season as a Floriana
The former Napoli striker signed for Maltese giants Valletta during the summer transfer window in 2018.
He has been the star player in the Maltese Premier League this season scoring 13 league goals, making him the top scorer so far this season.
- BOJAN KALJEVIC – 11 GOALS IN 13 APPEARANCES
Fontanella’s strike partner at Valletta, Bojan Kaljevic is also in his first season with the most successful side in Maltese football.
The Montenegrin forward first arrived on the Island during the 2013/14 season when he signed for Mosta.
During the 2014/15 season, the 33-year-old left Mosta for Balzan, then managed by Oliver Spiteri. Kaljevic scored a total of 19 league goals for Tar-Rotunda.
The striker spent a total of five years with Balzan where he featured in the UEFA Europa League for four consecutive seasons.
This season, Kaljevic has scored 11 goals in 13 league games for Valletta after arriving at the club from Balzan in August 2018.
- TAYLON – 1O GOALS IN 19 APPEARANCES
The 23-year-old arrived from Brazilian side AA Internacional Limeira in the summer and has been the star man for Hibs this season.
Taylon has scored a total of 10 goals in the Maltese Premier League this season. Not bad considering the Brazilian has featured in 19 games in his first season of Maltese football.
The forward’s impressive goalscoring record currently sees him third in the Maltese Premier League scoring chart, three goals behind Italian striker Mario Fontanella.
With a market value €275,000, interest around the talented forward will be high when the summer transfer window opens. However, Taylon could leave on a free transfer this summer as his contract has an expiry date set for 30 June 2019.
- ANDRIJA MAJDEVAC – 8 GOALS IN 15 APPEARANCES
The youngest name in the top five, Andrija Majdevac came through the academy at Serbian side FK Napredak Kruševac.
Experiencing three separate loan spells away from the Mladost Stadium between 2016 and 2017, the former Serbia U17 star signed for Maltese side Balzan in 2018.
Majdevac won one Serbian First League title with Kruševac during the 2015/16 season. H
This season the young forward has made a great start to life in Malta having scored eight goals in 15 appearances.
- TIAGO ADAN – 8 GOALS IN 18 APPEARANCES
The second Brazilian and last name on the list, Tiago Adan joins teammate Taylon on the top
The 30-year-old is also in his first season in Malta having arrived at Hibernians from Grêmio Novorizontino in August 2018.
Adan’s record in the Maltese FA Trophy currently stands at two goals in two games, with one assist to his name.
The Brazilian has also impressed in the league scoring eight goals in 18 appearances, putting him level on goals with Balzan forward, Majdevac.
