Hibernians kept their title hopes alive last Sunday thanks to young midfielder Jake Grech.
The 21-year-old scored the only goal of the game in the first half when Hibs played fellow title hunting side, Gżira United.
Grech has scored six league goals this season and is currently 10th in the Maltese Premier League top scorers chart.
The 21-year-old has made an instant impact for Hibs after joining the club from Birkirkara during the January transfer window.
Prior to Sunday’s fixture, United had been unbeaten in the league winning nine and drawing seven games. Manager Darren Abdilla has since resigned from his post with Gżira.
Speaking after the win, the Maltese international explained how important three points was for Hibs in their pursuit for the league title.
“It was an important win against one of the best teams in the league, they were unbeaten at the time and it gives us more confidence to keep working hard and improving game by game,” said Grech.
“It’s always a great pleasure to get on the scoresheet especially when it helps the team to bring the three points but at the moment, we are not focusing too much on our position in the league standings.
“We are just focused on taking it one game at a time.”
