Sources close to MalteseFootball.com can exclusively confirm that two clubs made an offer for Valletta FC’s Mario Fontanella during the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, 13 of those have come in the Maltese Premier League.

As well as scoring goals, Fontanella has also registered nine league assists during the 2018/19 campaign.

The Italian striker was a wanted man last month with Indonesian Go-Jek Liga 1 side Semen Padang FC and Prince Mohammad bin Salman League club Al-Ain FC both making offers to bring Fontanella in on loan.

Valletta were quick to decline the offers which would see their star striker leave the club for up to 11 months.

A large fee was also involved with both offers, however, for now, Fontanella will remain with the Maltese Premier League champions.

The 29-year-old recently won the Bank of Valletta Player of the Month award for October.

Valletta have seen the departure of key players such as Albert Prosa, Jhonnattann and Brazilian veteran Denni in recent years.

Talented winger Jhonnattann left Valletta in July 2018 signing for Saudi Arabian football club, Al-Batin. The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Al-Taawon until the end of the 2018/19 season.
